How to tell ThisFits your size
Getting an accurate recommendation starts with telling us about clothes you already own and love, not your measurements off a tape. Here's how to think about it.
Start with your favourite jeans
Think of the jeans you reach for most. Not the ones that fit perfectly, the ones you actually wear. If your go-to pair is a Levi's 29 and they fit snug from the start but that's how you like them, enter 29 as your bottom size and select Snug as your fit preference. That tells ThisFits you wear a 29 and you like it fitted, so we won't size you up unnecessarily.
Tops are about how you like to feel, not just your size
If you usually buy L because you prefer a baggier, relaxed feel, enter L and select Relaxed. If you're moving toward a closer fit and buying M even though they can feel snug or run short in the arms and torso, enter M and select Snug. Both are valid. The fit preference is what helps us calibrate.
If you're in between, sometimes L, sometimes M depending on the brand, enter the size you'd default to and we'll factor in the brand's tendency.
Dress sizing is the hardest, here's a shortcut
If you know you're roughly a 6 or 8 in dresses but it varies wildly by brand and cut, enter 8 as your dress size and select Just Right as your fit preference. We'll adjust based on the brand's tendency.
If you have a 36D bra size, that's also useful context, it tells us your chest is proportionally fuller, which matters for fitted tops and wrap-style dresses.
When you're buying intentionally oversized
If you want an oversized look and you'd normally pick a Medium for that purpose, enter M and select Relaxed, not your 'true' size. ThisFits recommends based on the outcome you want, not just your measurements. The fit preference is how you communicate intent.
Height and shoe size
Height matters most for dress and trouser length. At 5'9.5", you're on the taller end of standard sizing, which means some styles may run short in the torso or inseam for you. Add your height so we can flag when a style is likely to run short.
For shoes, enter your size directly, size 11, and we'll match it to the brand's size system including EU and UK equivalents.
A note on accuracy
ThisFits gives you a starting point, not a guarantee. Fit depends on your individual body shape, the specific garment construction, fabric stretch, and personal preference, none of which any sizing tool can fully predict. Our recommendations are based on brand sizing data, community fit signals, and your stated preferences. They will be wrong sometimes. Use them as a confident starting point, not a certainty. When in doubt, choose the size that matches your fit preference.
